Postal History


Registered  airmail cover , posted on 25.05 2010 from Moscow to small village Charkhin Ouzbekiston with arrival postmarked on 6.11.2010 .

---- Russia# 1324 ...Tercentenary anniversary of Poltava battle
Poltava battle, which is dated June 27, 1709, was the turning event in the history of the Great North War and became one of the most significant events in the military history of Russia andSweden. During the reign of Peter the Great and several decades after his death the day of Poltavabattle was celebrated as a triumphal day in Russia; now, in Russian Federation, there is the revival of this tradition.
The block shows the painting created by I.G. Tannauer “Peter I in Poltava battle” in 1720-th, and also the cartouche, illustrating military achievements of Russian army. The painting is in the collection of State Russian Museum.
----Russia#1443....Yaroslavl is a leading regional center of the Upper Volga Region, which managed to carry down to us the rich historical and cultural heritage. It is one of few Russian cities, where nearly 800 monuments of the past have been preserved. It is also a part of the tourist route "The Golden Ring of Russia" which has the status of UNESCO World Heritage Site. In 2010, Yaroslavl celebrates its millennium. "The ancient town, looking to the future!" is the slogan of the General plan of development of Yaroslavl till 2020 year, which became the main idea of the commemorative program.
The stamp depicts the monument to Yaroslav the Wise and the Church of the Epiphany.
---Russia#1418...Valaam archipelago (Valaam), located in the north-western part of Lake Ladoga, is by right considered the pearl of Karelia and the unique historical and natural landscape area. The archipelago consists of the island of Valaam and more than 50 small islands. A dissected coastline, a lot of bays, inlets, sheer granite cliffs feature the landscape. Spaso-Preobrazhensky Monastery - supposedly founded in the XI-XIII centuries, during the colonization of the islands - is an essential part of a unique complex of Valaam archipelago. 
Constructions of the beginning of the XVIII century - the end of the XIX century, including the Spaso-Preobrazhensky cathedral, belltower, the barbican church of Peter and Paul, church of the Assumption, the skete of St. Nicholas and many others have been preserved till nowadays.
In 1965, Valaam was granted the status of natural reserve; and in 1979 the national  museum-reserve was created on the island.

2010 Russia...Children's books...EUROPA

The history of issuance of stamps with the logo EUROPA has more than 50 years. For the first time in 1956 six countries: Belgium, France, Germany, Holland, Italy and Luxembourg - organized a joint issue of postage stamps with the inscription EUROPA, thereby laid the foundation for the project. In the first editions all stamps depicted the same picture, but later they began to reflect the national features of the countries. Russia has been participating in the program since 1995 year. The theme of 2010 year is "Children's books". 
The stamp depicts a boy reading children's books.

2010 Russia...Joint issue. Russia - Kazakhstan. Researchers. Chokan Valikhanov (1835-1865).

In 2010, the joint issue of postage stamps between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Kazakhstan is devoted to the 175th anniversary of outstanding scientist, specialist in geography and ethnography, educator and diplomat Chokan Valikhanov. He graduated from Omsk Cadet Corps, served in Siberian Cossack Army, then he served the Governor-General of Western Siberia Gustav Gasfort; participated in a number of expeditions to Middle Asia and China. In 1858, disguised as a Muslim merchant, he crossed the Tien-Shan and lived in Kashgar, where he collected materials on the ethnology of eastern Turkestan and the history of Altyshar. The detailed description of local flora, fauna and trade routes, study of history and life of the Kazakhs, as well as Kazakh folklore became the most famous work of the scientist. A lot of ethnologically accurate genre, portrait and landscape sketches which illustrated his scientific and travel diaries, easel drawings and water-colors have also remained intact.
The stamp depicts a portrait of the scientist against the background of map of Asia of the XIX century and the ancient cultic construction.

2010 Russia..The 50th anniversary of space flight of Belka and Strelka.

Postage stamp is devoted to the 50th anniversary of flight of the spaceship “Sputnik-5” with the dogs Belka and Strelka on board, which took place on August 19, 1960. Dogs became the first living creatures, which have safely returned to the Earth after orbital flight. Launching of animals in space was carefully prepared: a spaceship was equipped with biomedical apparatus, which fixed all the changes that occurred in their organisms during the flight, and special survival suits were created for "cosmonauts". The aim of the experiment was to study the impact of space radiation on life forms, as well as checking of the effectiveness of various life-support systems.
The stamp depicts Belka and Strelka against the background of the Earth and starry sky.

2010 Russia...The 50th anniversary of the USSR national team's victory in the UEFA European football championship.



Postage stamp is dedicated to the 50th anniversary of one of the most vivid and unforgettable victories in the history of native sport. The Soviet Union national football team became the first holder of the European Cup. In the semifinal match it has confidently won from the team of Czechoslovakia with a score of 3:0 and met in the final match with the national team of Yugoslavia. The crucial final match between the USSR and Yugoslavia was held on July 10, 1960 at the Paris stadium “Parc des Princes”. In those years the Yugoslavian team was one of the strongest teams not only in Europe but in the whole world. However Soviet players won the victory with a score of 2:1 by dropping the decisive goal in extra time.
